When should you not get cryotherapy sessions?

There are some health conditions which can prevent you from taking cryotherapy sessions. Some of them are absolute, meaning you are strongly advised against whole-body cryotherapy. Some of them are relative – you can take sessions, but only upon consulting your medical doctor.

Generally speaking, all these conditions are serious, so there is no way you are not aware of them. Here are the most common cryotherapy contraindications: 

Absolute contraindications: 

  • Cerebral stroke
  • Non-compensated hypertension ≥160/100 mm
  • Myocardial infarction less than 6 months ago
  • Reynaud’s syndrome
  • Cryoglobulinemia
  • Severe anemia
  • Acute respiratory infection 
  • Acute skin infection, viral or bacterial
  • Cancer
  • Pregnancy

Relative contraindications: 

  • Cardiac rhythm disorders
  • Pacemaker 
  • Stenocardia
  • Deep venous thrombosis
  • Cold allergy
  • Polyneuropathy
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Claustrophobia
