Equine training and tournaments are frequently associated with significant exertion, minor injuries, tears, bruises or lesions. Spot cryotherapy shows immediate results by limiting swelling, reducing inflammation and alleviating pain in the injured area. Chronic conditions like laminitis, inflammation of ligaments and tendons, arthritis and others may also significantly improve with regular local cryotherapy sessions.

What is equine cryofan Cryomed CF-04
and how does it work?

A cryofan, also called a cryogenic blower, is a device consisting of an insulated Dewar for liquid nitrogen and a hose with a nozzle tip, which delivers a cooled air stream mixed with nitrogen vapor to the injured area to cool it down quickly and efficiently. The operating temperature of the device is -100⁰C to -120⁰C. The session time does not exceed 5 minutes.

Cryomed CF-04 is extremely easy to operate. All you need is to start the nitrogen supply and direct the cold stream to the affected area.

Benefits of a local cryotherapy device for horses

  • Easy and convenient to operate
  • Sturdy and mobile design
  • Low noise for the maximum comfort of the animal
  • Cost-efficient, with liquid nitrogen consumption under 0.75 l/min
  • Ready to work in less than 4 minutes
  • Compatible with 10, 35, and 50-liter Dewars
  • EU origin

Local cryotherapy with a cryofan and equine cryosauna sessions complement and enhance each other. Whole-body cryotherapy triggers a systemic body response, improving general well-being, immunity and energy levels, while localized freezing sessions allow focusing closer on specific areas.

An equine cryofan is an extremely straightforward device that does not require a special permit or license to operate. Training takes up to one hour and includes guidelines on basic safety measures for working with liquid nitrogen.

When your horse has an injury, it is generally more effective if you apply cryotherapy within 48 hours after the injury occurs. However, positive results were reported even when spot cryotherapy was used after a longer period. Make sure to consult a manual supplied with each localized cryotherapy device to learn the best protocols.

Tissue damage may occur if cryotherapy session time is exceeded or intervals between cold treatments are too short. Extreme cold can hinder tissue growth in open wounds, so consult your vet before applying cold therapy.
